Andy Whitby Interview

1. As we come to the end of the 2006, sum up your year for us, how has it been?

Hectic, fun, exciting and a tad wild to be honest. At the start of each year I set myself a number of personal goals, and this year I exceeded them all, so I’m pleased within myself about that. There’s been some incredible moments for me this year that’ll I’ll remember forever; rocking the Contagious outdoor stage @ Global Gathering, seeing grown men cry during my set @ tidy (nearly set me off at the time!) and touring Japan (playing on Gold plated decks is something I won’t forget anytime soon!).

2. Whats your best and worst moments of the year?

BEST: Winning C.D of the year in the Hard Dance Awards/playing every decent night in the country/touring Japan/the reaction for AW5 & FR06.

WORST: Travelling, although I can’t complain really. My job is to play music to ensure clubbers have a great night, not many people can say they do that as their full-time occupation.

3. What’s been the funniest thing you have seen?

Probably something Lee Pasch was doing, the man is both crazed fool and great friend.

4. Best Addition and worst addition to the scene in general?

Best addition is the return of bouncy, euphoric music, and happy people on dancefloors. Worst addition is. . .I’m not sure really. Possibly warm-up funk hardhouse being played @ peak times?

5. Biggest tune of the year?

Of my own: My remix of Bliss Inc’s ‘Faith’, there hasn’t been a floor that didn’t go absolutely bonkers to it or ‘U Ready?’ which I’m still getting daily emails about.

Other producers: I’d say Stu Allan – Feeling (Technikal remix) was the biggest for me, Nukleuz never disappoint.

6. You have played at Tranzaction regularly over the year, how has it been and what’s your thoughts on the night and clubbers?

I LOVE Tranzaction as it’s got that rare package of awesome venue, awesome crowd and awesome promotion; Chris and Charlie are 2 of the nicest blokes you could want to meet.

The clubbers that go to Tranz are exactly what hard-dance is about to me, they’re there to have fun, enjoy themselves and just have a wicked night. None of this 2-much-hair-gel pose’n’wank attitude you see at some nights.

7. What do you think makes Tranzaction stand out?

See above! Then come down and you’ll see what it’s all about!

8. What’s your predictions for hard dance over the next year?

Growth in terms of clubbers and popularity. I see the scene has now managed to get past it’s dark stage and is finally re-attracting the people we lost to hardcore, so now it’s time to build on that and really spread the hard-dance sound globally again.

9. Look into the future and give us an estimated round up of what 2007 will bring for you?

*rubs magic ball of future-prediction* mmmmmmm, I’m seeing my label starting. . .I’m seeing working with Matt Lee a lot. . .I’m seeing lots of dancing people. . .I’m seeing. . .lots of naked girls. . .sorry, I think I’ll stop there, my balls showing me things only I’m meant to see!

10. What can clubbers expect from your next Tranzaction appearance?

Fast, fun, euphoric hard-house with all the usual magic sprinkled on top, coupled with a hint of cheekiness and lots of smiles for everyone. Superb, some might even say sexual.

Quick Fire Round:

Fav Drink: Evian water, or Kronenberg 1664 Blanc when I’m out.

Fav Food: Dominos 13” with ham, sausage, beef, extra cheese and 2 garlic dips.

Pet hate: People who like to run their mouths, but have nothing to say to your face.

Pre and post gig activities?

PRE: Shave my head, drink a can of red-bull & a bottle of water, smoke a lot, get in ‘the zone’.

POST: Drink water, as I lose a lot during my set, sign things, relax, make mental notes of things that happened when I was playing.

Fav Film: Back To The Future 2.

Fav TV Program: Don’t have time to watch much T.V I’m afraid.

Last non dance music you brought?

I’m fortunate to get most music for free nowadays but the last album I bought was the Pendulum one about 6 months ago.

Dream girl?

Thingy Gage. . . that hard-dance DJ, she’s quite nice.
