Alex Kidd Interview 2006
1. As we come to the end of the 2006, sum up your year for us, how has it been?
Wow ,fucking insane. I Mean really it has all kicked off for me this year. I’ve put in my hard graft but its been an awesome ride along the way. I’ve had a fucking incredible season in Ibiza, smashed up Dance Valley , Global and Planet Love and the endless days and nights in the studio and on the road and then in the office has been an emotional experience, if it all ended tomorrow id have a great big grin on my face! The friends and colleagues I’v spent time with have all helped mould what is gonna be an even bigger 07!!!
2. Whats your best and worst moments of the year?
Best moments have been the gigs, obviously Ibiza was huge for me as I played more sets than any other Dj at Tidy @ Es Paradis, I was there 6 times and missed 6 flights which was a record breaker. Also mixing the Tidy Weekender CD live was pretty big for me, all the festivals were all totally off the hook and going out of control. The studio has been cool too, getting into all the new kit and pushing things forward are all the elements that gives me the extra edge at the weekends so that’s just as important and as satisfying for me as the stages and the clubs.
Worst moments are missing flights and missing gigs but I suppose that can’t be helped.
3. What’s been the funniest thing you have seen?
My car in a ditch the other weekend at west-fest was pretty fucking hysterical, check the pic’s on dontstayin.com. but that didn’t compare to last week when I was doing a pilot for a new radio show. We rang up Scot from the organ donors and punk’d his ass for Ministry of Sound Radio. Absolute legendary classic moment!! Clips will be on my site very soon!!
4. Best Addition and worst addition to the scene in general? That’s a tough one, I’m struggling with answers, erm for me this year the best addition has probably been introducing the efx1000 into my sets. It really incorporates some twisted, nasty and manic elements into the whole performance so when I feel the crowd needs to peak or alternatively should stay locked in a groove…I can manipulate this in a much more flexible way. Pretty mind blowing shit when you get ya head into it.
Worst addition: shak, one of the new promoters I work with, now sharing an office with me, grrrrrrrrr!!
5. Biggest tune of the year? Alex Kidd v Organ Donors ‘Boot It Up’, Walt ‘let the Music Play’, Alex Kidd v DbD – ‘Money Shot’
6. You have played at Tranzaction regularly over the year, how has it been and whats your thoughts on the night and clubbers?
TZ is a second home to me and Chris and Charlie are my brothers so I am always loving the vibe and the crowd are amongst the best in the country as they will always go with what I play and the close interaction with the dancefloor means every movement on the mixer is responded to by all the TZ crew on the floor with a battle cry for “more hard beats!”
7. What do you think makes Tranzaction stand out?
The fact that a small city in the very bottom of the country can stand at the pinnacle of the scene loud and proud is an achievement that sets the standard for others who follow. Such a consistently amazing vibe, never one offs or now and again, every night I play there it’s emotional.
8. Look into the future and give us an estimated round up of what 2007 will bring for you?
About 20 parking tickets, probably 100 nights of not sleeping, and maybe another 40,000 miles on my car. ;-)
9. What can clubbers expect from your next Tranzaction appearance?
Well I was talking with Uberdruck about dressing in drag but he declined.
